Hi Lorraine,

Welcome to UKRFN, good to have you here.

Ah, I love kale chips (mouth drooling as I type). Haven't tried the variety that you mention in your post. I tend to just do mine plain massaged in oil and himalayan salt. Delicious and no need for any other flavours in my opinion.

Unfortunately kale is not a common vegetable in southern Europe (not where we have been anyway) and so I am devoid of kale chips at the moment. Have tried using cabbage as a substitute but although it makes and ok chip it is not the same as kale :(

Hope you get some good suggestions though.

Hi Helen, thanks for your reply. You know it hadn't crossed my mind to try them plain like you suggest, may well give that a go next time. I suppose it's because he first kale chips I'd ever tried were the ones I'd mentioned and I was so knocked out by them that I've been trying to recreate since.  I'm using cashews and bell pepper and cyder vinegar at the mo... think I need to use less of the cyder vinegar as its a bit overpowering.
Making some crackers at the mo (& Kale chips); always experimenting!  :-)

Anyone got any more suggestions? Would love to hear them. Thanks. X

Hi Lorraine,

I posted a basic 'cracker' recipe up on my website as part of a 'countdown to Christmas' you can see it by following the link here.

Using oat groats made them really crunchy which was really nice but you can substitute the oats for walnuts or brazil nuts and they taste just as nice.

The basic recipe is good on its own but then jazz it up a bit with spices/chilli/tomato or whatever you have in your cupboard as its always good to experiment as you say. :)

Let me know how you get on.

Thanks for that... Ummm, do you need to sprout the oat groats?
Here's the Kale chips I was talking about if anyone was curious;http://www.inspiralled.net/shop/raw-kale-chips?page=shop.browse&...
