hello

i am a fairly unhealthy vegetarian and am desperate to become a raw vegan as soon as possible in order to create a life i love that is full of health. i have a number of minor issues, and while they are not major, they are certainly things that i could live without.

the only thing is that i don't know where to start and also i have to do this on a budget.

please can someone help me? perhaps be my mentor? i promise i will make this as rewarding an experience as possible and i hope that one day i can do the same for someone else?

please get in touch with me if you feel you can help.

i thank you in advance for considering my questions.

I recommend the foraging group for doing things on a budget. Foraged food is also the healthiest of widely available raw foods as it is as organic as you can get. I certainly find it makes me feel better than any other.

With summer beginning it is an ideal time to start. But it's also good to remember there are many edible weeds that grow nearly all year round if not all year round so foraging is not something that has to be dependent on summer and autumn.

Sounds like Google time for the free stuff...but I reeeeaaaaaally recommend Sunfood Living by John McCabe when you get a chance to get hold of a copy. Ignighting your Life by McCabe is also an amazing read..  :) x
Hi Emily   I am by far not a expert. I finally about becoming more raw all the time. Luckily I was already not eating dairy for years.

1st ---stop all dairy---  milk, butter, cream, cheese

Do thisfor a week maybe two. If you lose the battle one or two days. No worries. Just start again

2nd/. Stop all wheat.-bread products mainly. But if you start reading Ingredients gluons shocked!

Naturally you'll stop buying many processed foods.

I propose you just do these 2 things.

I'll give you more wee hurdles to jump in about 3 weeks.

The trick is to just do one thing at a time. No rushing. Gets very overwhelming.  Hope this helps. Sass

You do not need to give up your life as a vegetarian. To be healthy, you just need to balance eating both vegetables and meat food, not necessarily raw food.

Perfect I agree. Those 2 things were just to start. It would simply help to get into looking at what you eat. Moving from vegetarian where one really eats chees and bread is not the best. Balance better. Thanks for the reminder.

Wow what a great thread!!!

I too would love to get started but have no idea where. In the past (so many times) going 100% raw from the start doesnt work for me.

Sass I love your step by step goals!!!

I cant send you a message on here for some reason but if its ok please could you email me on:

issychris@aol.com

If its possible could you let me know about the full process of your 'steps'.

I love the idea of these 'wee hurdles' and Ive never seen starting out on the raw food journey presented like this-you make it look easy!!!

Emily feel free to get in touch-perhaps we could help each other along the journey-i too am broker than broke lol!

Raw food without all the fancy equipment/potions/superfoods-can it really be done guys???

Best wishes

oh boo :( I had just written a huge reply only for it to be lost. oh well

anyway, thanks sass for your fantastic advice. this is the approach I am going to take this time. again this week I tried to go raw vegan, jumped right in at the deep end not allowing myself anything at all cooked even if it was vegan, and again I failed and gave into those junk food cravings. I've even started eating meat again.

I don't know what is happening to me. I need to do this for my health, mental wellbeing, finances an happiness. raw veganism is like a cure in my eyes to my problems.

Isabelle - thanks so much for replying. I would love nothing more than to support each other in going raw. it would certainly help me to have someone to do it with. my email address is emsy.g@hotmail.co.uk. please email me and we'll take it from there. like you I want to do it without all the fancy stuff. I love Megan Elizabeth for inspiration. I don't think she even owns a dehydrator and she makes some delicious things just using a knife and sometimes a blender. it's also low fat raw vegan which is what I'm eventually striving for. raw on $10 a day is also really good. also your blog is fantastic. so original. it made me chuckle.

I am starting a blog to chart my progress, general life ramblings and also just to get things off my chest.

thank you everyone and please keep the comments coming.

peace and love

emily

Emily. If you like here is something I wrote up for a girl on face book.

Raw food
I'm back again with more ideas. I think because it's taken 2 yrs to transition but I am there now. I propose..... ...................................................................................Breakfast every morning fresh fruit. Cup of tea. Drizzle raw honey-vivapure-on your fruit salad breaky. ...................................Lunch - Main meal. Huge salad. With lentil sprouts. Hemp protien powder, chia seeds. ...............................................Dinner. A quick stir fry of broccoli. Or another.. Kale, cauliflower. Just deck to one each meal. Make it simple.  Quiona. Boiled for 5 mins then let stand. Cut up garlic. Mix in after. Or another meal. Miso soup. Add raw veg once added water to miso in a bowl. If you have a shuddered the pulp from your juice. Make crispy bread pieces..................use spices. Crushed chilies and Cuban. Tumeric.  Garlic and raw red onion. Have fun!!!!!
I'm not 100%. I do live in Scotland ;)
