im nicole, ive been going raw for 6 weeks now and loving it, i live in bournemoth dorset do you know of anybody near by?i would love to meet up and have chat with other people who are raw xxx

Hi Nicole

I know this is an old message, but there is now a regular raw potluck in Bournmouth. (A potluck is an event where people get together and share food).

The next one is Feb 22nd, plus there are other events in Bournmouth: www.rainbowtribe.co.uk/rainbow-living-events.php

For people in other parts of the UK, I've put together a list of potlucks on my website here: Raw Potlucks in the UK.

Hi Nicole,

Unfortunately I don't live in the UK so can't help you but I did put a thread on here a while back about pot lucks which are a great way to meet up with like minded folk.

You may have to go back a bit to find it but there may have been some people in your area on there.

Good luck with your raw journey - how is it going so far?

its going really well, a couple of bad days,im now trying new foods like raw chocolate ummm. thankyou for getting back to me the more i can talk to people about this the better. How long have you been raw,did you find it easy at first?

Hi Nicole,

I will have been raw for 7 years in November. Most of that time was high raw - 75%+ but for the last year I have been 100% (give or take the odd slip)

It has been a journey and not easy but something that I always felt drawn back to. Its more about letting go of our attachment to food than what we actually eat. Getting emotions around food under control and dealt with.

I love raw food though and can't see me eating anything else. The % may vary over the years but it will always make up the bulk of my diet.

See my raw food blog - 365raw and video channel The Raw Option for more information. You can sign up on the blog for free recipes which may help.

The important thing is to go at your own pace and see if this is something that you really want to do. It takes a lot of commitment in the early stages but is well worth it in the long run. Listen to what your own body tells you and don't make the mistake (like I did in my early days) of doing it like everyone else because everybody else does it slightly differently and you will end up driving yourself nuts.

Find your way with it and have fun with it safe in the knowledge that you are doing your health a huge favour.....

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

thankyou i know this is right for me because i feel so much better in myself, i have trained to be a nutritional therapist 2 years ago and i feel i need to help others, i sufferd from depression most of my life and doctors didnt help me in anyway, but since i took my health into my own hands ive been clear from that dark cloud, im trying now to loose at least 2 stone, is there anything i should stay clear of food wise? nikki x

Hi Nikki,

Sounds like you are doing really well. As far as things to avoid, well its like I said, listen to your body and let that be your sounding board rather than what other people tell you.

We are all different and react differently and have different nutritional needs and deficiencies to overcome.

That said, don't fall into the trap of too much gourmet food as it will probably be high in nuts/fat and although neither are bad too much can be difficult for the body to process.

Aim to keep it simple and decide what it is you like and dislike and keep the gourmet stuff to special occasions/weekends that sort of thing.

Hope that helps.

Hi Helen, and all. Has gone a tad quiet on here lately hasn't it.

Hi Heather, yes it is a little quiet isn't it.......speaking with James about ways in which we can rev things up a bit here.....

How are things going with you?

Not really made any more progress on the raw front yet. Having ditched wheat, gluten and dairy recently my digestion has been taking a while to settle. Actually found I couldn't handle too much raw for a while. Had to backtrack a little and eat more cooked veg, brown rice etc. Just about got back to where I was with raw and ready to start moving slowly forward as my body tells me it is ready.

How are you?

Do you think the forum button needs to be made more prominent? Are new people finding it do you think?

Sounds like you are making steps towards where you want to be Heather. Sometimes you need to take things down a gear in order to make progress.

Its not a race and we all get there at our own time and pace. It has taken me 6 years to get to where I am!!

As for the forum button - it could well be that it is not obvious. I guess people have been on holiday and enjoying the summer as well. Hopefully things will pick up soon.

Things great with me, currently spending the summer in Portugal before heading back to Spain for the winter.

Hi Helen, my name is Phil and  I'm only just starting my journey, this is my 1st post! I went 100% raw for two weeks in June and really noticed the results. Since then I've been saving up to buy a Vitamix and Dehydrator as without these I personally won't be able to keep myself committed. Don't get me wrong, I love salads, fruit and nuts etc its just that by week two my hand blender had had it and my interest was waning. With the correct tools I should be back "into" it after our house move next week. New house, new kitchen, new life. I loved the results I gained and know deep down this is the future. I live in Norfolk, I'm 38 and have just started a vegan catering and coaching business.
