My husband is ill just now. He's not milking it though and that's because of something I said yesterday.  I just couldn't help myself and sometimes our egos come right to the surface and start…Continue

What's your biggest raw relationship dilemma?

I thought I'd put this question out there to see what your main issue around being raw in a cooked food household/with a cooked food partner is.For some people (including myself) it's fridge space! …Continue

Thanks James. I really look forward to connecting with people, male or female, raw or cooked, who might be experiencing some difficulty with their loved ones about any aspect of raw.

In my experience this seems to affect quite a number of couples and can have very disastrous consequences if not handled delicately. My partner and I actually split up a few months after I went raw and it truly was a very difficult time in our relationship. I'm happy to say that after a period of time we managed to reconcile our relationship and very recently got married so there is a happy ending!

If anyone would like to share difficulties they are having in their relationship regarding raw or any aspect to do with being raw then this is a great place to do so!

My biggest dilemma is around feeding the kids, as they see their parents eating completely different foods, and having totally different views on nutrition.

That's a great dilemma Lisa! What do your kids eat at the moment? Do you and your husband both talk to them about nutrition and healthy eating? Does your husband disagree on the nutrition of fruits/vegs etc. xx

They eat a combination of what we eat, tons of fresh fruit and vegetables. I talk to them about nutrition and healthy eating and see they are modifying their choices, eg not having milk, eating less meat etc. but they see what their dad eats and hear him when he says that eating raw food is 'not natural!!!!' and that it's 'too weird!'
I hope that they will see what we eat, and how it shows in our bodies, energy levels, appearance etc etc and make jugdements for themselves. I still cook for them, but always have something raw as an option, side dish etc.

Wow Lisa, I didn't realise your partner still thought it weird and unnatural, especially after the length of time you've been doing it! You've absolutely hit the nail on the head there though, kids are very intuitive and will pick up on the difference between your bright, shiny, positive and beautiful aura (for want of a better word) and your husband's negativity. Whilst your kids are getting mixed messages I think it's very positive that they have you on hand to provide excellent healthy dishes. A lot of children, myself included, had no access at all to the kind of information and healthy food making ability that you provide your children so that's definitely something to be proud of.
I know that Kate Magic cooked for her boys but I remember recently in one of her youtube videos she was talking to reuben(?) and he said he used to eat pasta but then it he noticed he didn't feel so good so stopped. In my experience our bodies will naturally uncover and decide what makes them feel great and what makes them feel less than great and therefore make the very slow but sure shift in that general direction, despite what your dad (or anyone else) says! :) It's taken me 3 years to fully understand and engage in that process and even when my mind says "I'm having this" my body goes "uh oh" and another lesson is learned!

I guess it would probably be easier to step back from the opposing views and let kids decide for themselves by doing as you do, giving them both options x

That's so true Emma. I think the ability to listen to our bodies is so important, and something which the majority of people fail to do, resulting in them repeating the same unhealthy patterns. I believe in leading by example, and hope that the kids will learn to listen to their bodies too. At least here they are able to see both sides of the coin!

Having met you Lisa I can honestly say you are one of the best examples of a healthy diet I've ever seen. Your kids are blessed xxx
