2012 is newly arrived, my birthday is tomorrow and this year I am bound and determined to finally get well and recover from fibromyalgia. I am a great believer in superfoods and superherbs but I am operating on a small budget so I have to target my few pennies carefully to make sure I get as much benefit as possible from what I buy. An exciting superfood has come to my notice that is (relatively) cheap, has such an incredible nutritional profile that it can be used like a multivitamin supplement, is anti-inflammatory, very high in antioxidants and on top of all that, it cleanses the bowel by killing off parasites and cleaning out old residue.
I listened this morning to a radio interview in which Truth Calkins discusses the benefits of moringa. He talks specifically about moringa leaf powder, I know you can get seeds but I don't know anything about those. I had heard of this superfood some time before but didn't know much about what benefits it gave so I didn't bother getting any. But by the time I'd finished listening to Truth talk about it, I couldn't wait to get my hands on some. I did some shopping around and among the uk sites I usually use, only Mike Nash at aggressive health carried it and it was already out of stock there (word must have gotten around fast). The Americans do it of course but even Longevity Warehouse were out of stock. But I found another online source at moringamutual.org which seems to be a confederation of African growers, so the money goes straight to the growers as far as I can tell. In the video, you briefly see the leaves being air-dried on racks before being ground into powder, so (also as far as I can tell) it seems the leaves are not heat-processed which is good because Truth says many of the nutrients in them are heat sensitive. Shipping is £8 to the UK but mine was effectively paid for by the extra discount they give when you 'like' them on facebook, you get a discount coupon code. In case anyone is wondering, I have no connection whatsoever with moringamutual.org, I haven't even tried the product yet because I have only just ordered but I will do an update when I try it. I'm just pleased to find a supply that looks like it comes more or less directly from the growers.
Truth recommends starting with half a teaspoon in a little water per day - and anyone can have this, old or young, raw or conventional eaters, sick or well. It's a really good superfood to start off with if you don't know where to start or haven't taken anything before because it's an all-rounder and is safe and gentle. He says build up slowly to a tablespoon per day. Apparently it gives you gas initially as the parasites die off and old residue is stirred up but after a few days, it makes bowel movements work much better. I'm reporting what Truth said, I have no first hand experience yet but will post a report on how I get on once I'm underway. If you'd like to listen to the interview I refer to, you can go to Longevity Warehouse's articles section (you may need to give your email to subscribe to the newsletter to get the link) here http://www.longevitywarehouse.com/Articles.asp?ID=360
