I just started on the raw food journey and hoping to gather information on where and how to start.  What do need right now to make transition easy.

Hi - and well done!  The way I transitioned was by replacing my breakfast with fruit.  I bought seven bananas, three melons and seven pears. Every morning I would slice a banana into a bowl, then on top slice half a melon and a whole pear. On top of that I sprinkled ground flax seeds (for the omega 3 and you can get it from a health food shop).

The idea was that i would eat the wettest fruit first, and finish up with the banana.  If you buy enough fruit for a week of breakfasts you'll always know what that meal is going to consist of.

Just replacing one meal is a start.  I always carried a few spare bananas around with me, just in case I craved something NOW! I very quickly went into total raw, just because I hate cooking and raw is the ultimate fast food. I was on just fruit for the longest time, till I just now discovered sprouting. I havent looked back. There are books and websites on sprouting. You just need a few jam jars and you can do it. It's really easy.

I dont know about making the transition easy, though. When I gave up tea and coffee and bread, I got a stinking flu like headache thing for a whole week, but then I was fine.  Now, if I slip back (and I do occasionally, like cake), I pay for it the next day. The only thing about being raw is - I find - people tend to think you're barking mad and digging your grave with your teeth. I am the only person I know who is raw, so it's kind of solitary, for me. But I look OK, feel great and have loads of energy.

So, good luck and let us know how you are getting on!

Hi, Agree with Katie's comments, my friends thought I had lost it, but now some are into juicing too.

My typical day now starting at 6.00 am would start with breakfast a glass of warm lemon water, I then have a litre of spirulina about 9-11 am followed by a green drink throughout the day, if you have a juicer mascinating ones are the best, that will keep me going till about 3pm, then we have an avocado salad with udos oil, I might have some nuts or seeds in between as well if hungary.

Initially I was 19 stone and have lost over 4.5 stone in 4 months, we started slowly by having the lemon water & green drink for breakfast but are now 100% raw & are just 1 stone away from being a good bmi of 24 : )

It takes a bit of time to get the toxins out 1 week for tea & coffee, Robos tea weened me off this without milk & sugar, & now if I need a sweet fix 1 apple will cure that & recharge me very quickly. Also drink at least 2-4 liters of water to flush the system & colonics will help too.

We are now raw food vegans which we are really proud of, its crazy to think that when you compare my diet 4 months ago, but it has been a fantastic journey & a lifestyle change.

If you can there a loads of good books & dvds, The Truth matters is amazing everyone should see that, that will keep you motivated, & there are a few confrenrences that are also very inspiring.

Enjoy your journey, we wish we did it years ago ; ))

Hi

That weight loss Charlie's talking about sounds fantastic.  Well done! Besides the physical benefits of going raw I'm finding that it affects me on a kind of mental level too.  I'm much more motivated, clear headed, positive and also a bit more intuitive.  I suppose food affects every single cell and stuff, which is kind of obvious because you hear about those children who go bonkers when they have synthetic additives in their juices.

I get a weekly emailed newsletter from Dr Wysong (he wrote 'Living As if Thinking Matters' - great book).  He's big on raw food for pets as well as humans. It's inspiring and worth googling and getting the newsletter.

On another note, has anyone got an easy way to grow wheatgrass that doesnt involve having a small greenhouse in your kitchen? I'm really struggling with it and have reverted to buying it dried in a sachet, ready to mix with water, but I'm aware that fresh would be heaps better.

Best wishes to everyone xxx
